Liz Kendall, Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, visits Lowestoft’s Pathways Care Farm alongside Jess Asato, Labour candidate for Lowestoft
A member of the Shadow Cabinet visited a Lowestoft care farm today alongside the Labour parliamentary candidate.
Liz Kendall, Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, called in at the Pathways Care Farm with Jess Asato.
The centre offers the chance for people to learn new skills and supports many back into work, with activities including maintaining the machines, restoring the barn and looking after the animals.
Ms Kendall and Ms Asato met with regular visitors to the farm to hear about their path into employment and turning their lives around.
Ms Asato said: “Pathways Care Farm is a wonderful organisation which has a huge impact on the people who need its support.
“I’m delighted to have invited Liz Kendall to see first hand its role in supporting people with mental health and other conditions back into work.
“Care farms offer a cost-effective way to provide community services and well being to people of all ages and from a variety of backgrounds."
Pathways is set on a 13-acre site in North Lowestoft, and has been a working farm since the 19th century.
It is 10 minutes from Lowestoft town centre and next to the A12.
Ms Kendall said: “Organisations like Pathways Care Farm have a huge role in helping people get the skills and confidence to get back to work.”
