Lowestoft's London Road South closed as armed police descend on area

Armed police have descended on a Lowestoft street, with pedestrians and drivers told to avoid the area.

The town's London Road South has been closed from the junction with Carlton Road due to an ongoing incident. Another closure is in place further up the road near KFC.

An eyewitness said the road was closed at around 11am and that there are 'a few police cars and armed officers' on the scene.

Customers in KFC have been told they cannot leave the restaurant, with staff reportedly handing out drinks to those stuck inside.

Dog units were also seen in the area.

Suffolk Police have since confirmed that a 38-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of firearm offences.
