Flat in Surrey Street, Lowestoft, suffers severe damage after e-bike on charge catches fire




A flat has suffered severe damage after an electric cycle on charge caught fire.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service was called at 9.52am today to the blaze in a ground floor flat at Beaconsfield House, in Surrey Street, Lowestoft, after neighbours saw smoke and a fire alarm went off.

Firefighters wearing breathing equipment used a hose reel jet and a larger covering jet to extinguish the flames.

A fire service spokesperson said there were no casualties but the blaze caused severe damage to the flat.

They said the remains of the bike have been taken away for further examination.

Four engines attended the incident, with two from Lowestoft South, one from Wrentham and one from Bungay.

The incident was dealt with by 11.13am and, as of 12.47pm, firefighters remained on scene carrying out building checks.

Suffolk Police and Cadent attended.
