Firefighters tackle huge barn blaze which broke out overnight at Broadside Park Farm in Reydon near Southwold

Crews from across Suffolk tackled a huge barn fire at a farm near Southwold in the early hours of this morning, saving livestock and machinery in the process.

Firefighters were sent to the blaze at Broadside Park Farm in Reydon's Lowestoft Road at about 2.10am, where a barn and three silos were alight.

A fire service spokesman said a total of nine crews were at the scene when the fire was at its peak.

Although the barn is usually home to livestock, including pigs, no animals were harmed in the fire, the spokesman added.

He said a stop to the incident was called at 5.20am, although a couple of relief crews may remain at the farm this morning to damp down the area.

Area manager Andy Smith tweeted that the incident was being scaled down to one pump at about 6.37am.

He added: "Assertive safe and effective firefighting contained fire, protecting livestock and machinery.

"Thank you to all crews for the hard work given the challenges of poor water supplies."

Firefighters from Beccles, Halesworth, Haverhill, Leiston, Lowestoft South, Southwold and Wrentham responded to reports of the major fire.
