East Suffolk Council's bin collections to resume next week after week's worth of waste pick-ups cancelled due to 'severe weather'
Bin collections in East Suffolk will resume next week, the local authority has said after it confirmed that tomorrow's waste pick-ups would be cancelled.
That means that all of this week's planned waste collections in the district will have been halted due to the 'severe weather' of snow and ice that Storm Darcy brought to the region.
East Suffolk Council said East Suffolk Norse, which operates its refuse service, will conduct 'catch up' collections from Monday - during which bagged side waste will be accepted.
A spokeswoman for the council said: "Collection days will remain the same, however the particular bin being emptied may be different for the next two weeks to ensure all outstanding collections are completed.
"There will be double collections on some days."
To allow crews to focus on general household waste and recycling collections, garden waste will not be collected for two weeks. These collections will resume on Monday, March 1.
"This means that some households will unfortunately miss two scheduled garden waste collections, whilst some will miss one collection," the spokeswoman added.
"We apologise for any inconvenience this causes however the clearing of normal waste and recycling during this difficult period is our priority.
Households in 'Calendar 1' areas - whose black/grey bins were not collected this week - should put these bins out next week, but recycling bins will not be emptied at that point.
During the week commencing February 22, recycling bins will then be collected, alongside black/grey bins as normal, and bagged recycling side waste will also be accepted.
For households in 'Calendar 2' areas - whose recycling bins were not collected this week - should put these bins out next week, at the same time as the scheduled black/grey bin collection. Only bagged recycling side waste will be accepted this week.
Recycling bins for these households will be collected as normal during the week commencing February 22, but recycling side waste will not be accepted this week.
The spokeswoman added: "These collections are subject to the weather conditions. All collections will return to the normal schedule from 1 March."
