East Suffolk Council's bin collections cancelled for fourth day due to snow and ice as it considers calling off Friday's too
Bin collections have been cancelled for a fourth day in a row for residents in East Suffolk, as the council said it 'remains unsafe' to carry them out due to snow and ice in the area.
East Suffolk Council was forced to call off waste collections on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday due the snowfall making it 'almost impossible for 20-tonne-plus refuse vehicles to safely reach and navigate a very large number of roads and properties'.
And with temperatures expected to fall further tonight - with the county set to be hit by the coldest night in years - the authority said it has decided it 'remains unsafe' to carry out collections tomorrow.
A spokeswoman for the council said they are also considering cancelling Friday's collections, with a 'full catch-up service' being prepared by East Suffolk Norse.
She said: "We understand this is frustrating however the safety of crews and residents is of the utmost importance.
"We will advise when collections will resume however, for any households which have accumulated additional waste, bagged side waste will be collected at the same time."
Residents are being asked to store any bagged side waste until their collection day has been confirmed to avoid rubbish being dispersed by the wind.
Meanwhile, Ipswich Borough Council said it was not possible for their refuse teams to collect all bins today due to the icy conditions.
The council has shared a list of road it was not able to get to and has asked residents on those roads to leave their bins out as the teams will return to collect their rubbish later in the week.
