Suffolk mobility scooter users get safety advice
TGA Mobility in Sudbury hosted a well-attended ‘Safe Scoot’ Awareness Day so East Anglian mobility scooter users could discover how to drive mobility scooters safely.
The event was held outside TGA’s independent living showroom and attracted a large number of visitors from the local area.
Attendees were a mixture of current scooter owner looking for advice on safe driving along with individuals looking to try a scooter for the first time in a safe environment.
During the tuition and demonstrations, a Police Constable from Norfolk & Suffolk Constabulary assisted visitors and Suffolk Family Carers provided information regarding their home carer support services.
Essential driving tips for scooter users were provided around a pre-determined course that included ramps, cones and areas to practise reversing.
Learning how to manouvre safely in tight spaces and control a scooter when moving in reverse, were deemed very useful by most people who completed the course.
These individuals all received a certificate from TGA to highlight their enhanced proficiency in safe scooter driving.

“We demonstrated many ways to stay safer when out and about – ranging from how to avoid potential hazards through to raising awareness of individual capabilities.
“Our comprehensive range of scooters was used to illustrate how different models suits different people and the varying techniques required to drive appropriately.
“We also highlighted the importance of protecting pedestrians and legal requirements as per the Highway Code. “The day was fun and enjoyable with a friendly, positive atmosphere.
“TGA and I would like to thank Norfolk & Suffolk Police for helping use deliver this programme of awareness and Suffolk Family Carers for supporting the event.
“We do hope our awareness day makes a difference in East Anglia and every local that attended benefits from greater safety, confidence and peace of mind.”
