Plans withdrawn for Travellers site housing six caravans outside Lakenheath
Plans have been withdrawn for a Travellers site housing six caravans in the countryside outside a village.
A proposal to West Suffolk Council had been submitted for the change of use of land from a greenfield to use as a residential caravan site for six families on land south west of Sedge Fen Road, Lakenheath.
Six amenity buildings, a layer of hardstandings and associated dayrooms were also proposed along with six caravan pitches.
Applicant Matthew Murkin and his family already live on the land in mobile caravans.
No reasons were stated for the withdrawal of the plans.
Prior to the withdrawal of the application, Lakenheath Parish Council strongly objected to the plans and recommended West Suffolk District Council Enforcement Team visit the site.
The Environment Agency also objected to the development as it fell into a flood risk vulnerability category that was ‘inappropriate to the flood zone’.
A number of local residents supported the plans.
