67-year-old Mildenhall Sharks swimmer from Lakenheath completes Serpentine Swim in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care




A 67-year-old swimmer has spoken of her joy after completing a swim of the Serpentine lake in Hyde Park.

Jeannie Morley, from Lakenheath, is an experienced swimmer, having completed the same swim for charity on several previous occasions.

A member of the Mildenhall Sharks club, she chose to participate in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care when she took to the water on Saturday.

Mrs Morley said of her most recent experience: “I was very busy for the first 20 minutes. But I had a wonderful time.

“A woman from the hospice rang me and said that: ‘You’ve done really well to raise that amount of money in only a couple of weeks.’”

The Covid pandemic meant that Mrs Morley was unable to take part in the swim for two years.

She only swam a mile this time, but has expressed interest in going further next time round.

“I’d like to do the two-mile swim next time. You can’t always get in for the two-mile swim – I’ve done it before, but the places get booked quickly!”

Mrs Morley’s husband received care from St Nicholas prior to his death.
