BT to cut jobs at Adastral Park in Martlesham, near Kesgrave and Ipswich, by more than one-third
More than 1,000 workers will be affected as BT looks to shrink the number of workers at a site in Suffolk.
The telecommunications giant has revealed it was looking to reduce office and equipment space at Adastral Park, in Martlesham, near Kesgrave, in a bid to ‘rebalance its talent footprint across the UK’.
About 2,900 people are employed at the site, and as many as 1,100 – over one-third – face redeployment over the next two years.
A spokesman for the firm said the site requires significant investment to modernise, and its size makes this a major undertaking.
BT said would support employees affected, and would be looking to relocate as many as possible.
In addition, no land at Adastral Park will be sold.
It will also review plans for empty buildings, and there will be no immediate changes at the site.
The BT spokesman added: “We’re consolidating into a smaller number of buildings around the UK that provide cutting edge technology and great working environments for our people.
“As part of these activities, we’re proposing to reduce the size of our presence at Adastral Park and move some roles to other BT Group locations over the next two years.
“We’re committed to Adastral Park for the long-term, and we’ll continue to invest in our facilities there as a number of our core operations, research and security functions will remain on-site.
“We’ll work closely with any colleagues impacted by these changes and will offer support including relocation and redeployment options wherever possible.”
