Matt Ward set to become an Ipswich Town professional after former Wroxham player impressed in under-18s team

He has played in the Thurlow Nunn League five times, scoring three goals, for Premier Division leaders Wroxham in the abandoned 2020/21 season and now attacker Matt Ward is set to become a professional at Ipswich Town.

The 17-year-old, who has been a regular in the Blues' under-18s team since joining the club last year, has agreed a deal in principle to sign his first professional contract at the Suffolk club ahead of next season.

Ward found the back of the net for the U18s against QPR earlier this month as well as scoring against Millwall and Cardiff in February.

But he will not be involved when Town host Swindon Town in Saturday's delayed FA Youth Cup Fourth Round Proper tie (2pm) due to being cup tied.

The U18s return to action following that tie when hosting Colchester United at Playford Road next Tuesday, when Ward, who can be seen scoring for Wroxham below, will be hoping to be back in the side.
