Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap trains with Thomas Tuchel’s England senior squad alongside captain Harry Kane for first time ahead of World Cup qualifiers
Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap trained alongside Harry Kane under the watchful eye of new England boss Thomas Tuchel as one of three Under-21s players to have joined in with the senior session at St George’s Park yesterday.
The 22-year-old was left out of the German’s first England squad having been widely touted by pundits for a first senior call-up ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia at Wembley.
Instead, Delap - who has 10 Premier League goals in 28 matches - was included in Lee Carsley’s 25-man U21s squad for games against France and Portugal in preparation for this summer’s UEFA U21 Euro finals alongside Town team-mates Jaden Philogene and Omari Hutchinson.
But ahead of the trip to Lorient to play France on Friday (8pm, GMT), the striker signed for an initial £15 million from Manchester City in the summer got to train with the senior team for the first time on Tuesday.
He took to the pitch for the session that was streamed by the FA via their X, formerly Twitter, channel, along with fellow U21 squad members Taylor Harwood-Bellis (Southampton) and Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace).
Delap is the only one of the promoted trio without a senior cap to his name, Harwood-Bellis and Wharton each having made one full appearance.
Morgan Gibbs White, who had been left out of Tuchel’s first squad ahead of being instrumental in Nottingham Forest’s 3-0 victory at Portman Road on Saturday, has got a late call-up to replace Cole Palmer, who picked up an issue playing for Chelsea on Sunday.
