Ipswich Town to face Shakhtar Donetsk twice following training camp in Carinthia, Austria

Ipswich Town are set to play Ukrainian Premier League champions Shakhtar Donetsk in back-to-back friendlies at the conclusion of their pre-season camp in Austria later this month.

The games will each be an hour long and will take place at Sportzentrum Landskron, on the outskirts of Villach in the south of Austria on Saturday, July 20.

It will come at the end of a week which will see Kieran McKenna put his squad, who returned to pre-season training today with two new signings in Omari Hutchinson and Ben Johnson, through their paces at Carinthia, 31km to the north east of Landskron.

The camp will start for the Premier League new-boys on Monday, July 15 and sees them fly out to a different venue, having been based in Laa an der Thaya, north of Vienna last summer.

The club had ended that trip with two friendlies as well, a 2-1 victory against Slovakian outfit Sparta Trnava before fielding a different side in a 2-2 draw with native side Flyeralarm Admira.

McKenna’s squad had then flown back out to Austria to take in the Innsbruck Cup, which they ended up winning, involving RB Leipzig and Werder Bremen.

The only other confirmed warm-up match for the Blues so far is the home game with German side Fortuna Düsseldorf on Saturday, July 27 (3pm) – a week after facing Shakhtar Donetsk.
