Ipswich Town: Liam Delap scores for England U21s against France but Omari Hutchinson receives straight red card
Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap found the net for England U21s against France last night but his club teammate Omari Hutchinson was shown a straight red card.
Hutchinson, Delap, and Blues winger Jaden Philogene, all featured in a 5-3 thriller at the Stade du Moustoir with France coming out on top.
The latter two started the game, winning their 11th and eighth U21s caps respectively, with Delap involved in a goal after only 90 seconds.
The 22-year-old frontman headed a corner from towards the far post, the ball hitting the wideman and falling to Manchester City’s James McAtee, who scored.
Philogene also struck a shot against the post in the first-half.
Delap got his goal in the 61st minute to narrow France’s lead to 4-3, nodding into the net from close range after McAtee’s chip had hit the far post and bounced down inside the six-yard box.
Liverpool's Harvey Elliott Elliott skied a penalty over the bar before France made it 5-3 in the 76th minute.
Delap and Philogene were substituted and Hutchinson came on to win his third U21s cap.
The former Chelsea man’s time on the field was cut short in the 85th minute when he was shown a straight red card for sliding in and catching French player Thierno Barry on the shin with a raised boot, although he had appeared to be trying to pull his boot out of the way.
England's U21s are next in action on Monday when they host Portugal in a friendly at the Hawthorns.
