Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna gives update after winger Wes Burns taken off on a stretcher with knee injury at Liverpool
Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has said the early signs for winger Wes Burns are ‘not good’, confirming the Welsh international left Anfield on crutches for a scan on a swollen knee.
The 30-year-old was carried off on a stretcher following a lengthy period of treatment that came after a challenge with Cody Gakpo 25 minutes into the contest, which ended 4-1 in the Premier League leaders’ favour.
McKenna said in his post-match press conference: “He’s not good but we’ve got our fingers crossed.
“I’m not exactly sure but it’s something with his knee. It wasn’t an impact, it was a movement.
“The knee's very swollen and he's on crutches. He'll be going for a scan.
“We hope that it's not as bad as it looks, but it does look like a serious one."
Burns, who had come back into the Town starting line-up following the 6-0 home defeat to Manchester City last Sunday, was replaced by Ben Johnson.
Meanwhile, McKenna confirmed that left wing-back Leif Davis did not emerge for the second half due to illness.
He said: “He was sick this week. He felt better yesterday and wanted to have a go at it but he felt sick during the game and sick at half-time.”
