Non-league matches at Ipswich Wanderers, Felixstowe & Walton United and Lowestoft Town among those set to survive Storm Babet downpours to entertain Suffolk crowds

As expected, the non-league football programme has been heavily affected by the wet weather brought in by Storm Babet but there are still games across Steps 3-6 (3pm) set to go ahead.

The top-of-the-table clash in the Pitching In Isthmian League North Division at the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium is among those with joint leaders Lowestoft Town looking to go clear of Bowers & Pitsea with victory.

Elsewhere in the division, a big crowd is expected for an all-Suffolk clash at the other end of the table with 16th-placed Ipswich Wanderers hosting basement side Stowmarket Town (20th) at Humber Doucy Lane.

And Felixstowe & Walton United have posted on social media that they are hopeful their home game with Wroxham will also go ahead.

Today also marks the first round proper of the Isuzu FA Vase with Halstead Town hopeful of a big attendance across the Suffolk-Essex border against high-flying fellow Step 6 side Stanway Pegasus, having posted their Rosemary Lane pitch seems to have held up well.

Long Melford’s away tie at Saffron Walden Town is also set to go ahead while Mildenhall Town have confirmed the visit of Sheringham is ‘game on’.

In the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division, Brantham Athletic’s (17th) home game with Dereham Town (3rd) has been confrmed as going ahead.

The list of games that have fallen victim to the wet weather includes AFC Sudbury’s Pitching In Southern League Premier Central clash with AFC Telford United, despite it having been set for an artificial pitch.

A statement from AFC Sudbury, whose opposition were due to make the 300-plus round-trip from Shropshire, read: “Following the significant rainfall experienced over the past 48 hours both our 3G and grass pitches are closed today, tomorrow and Monday also, both for safety reasons and also to allow the surface to recover.

“This means of course that today's home Men's 1st Team match against Telford as well as numerous, EJA and JPL games as well as a Women's Reserve fixture (are all postponed).”
