Ipswich Town boss Paul Cook pleased with point against Lincoln City in first home game in charge
After coming from behind at half-time to claim a 1-1 draw against third-placed Lincoln City last night, Ipswich Town manager Paul Cook was pleased with the outcome of his first game in charge at Portman Road.
The Imps took the lead in spectacular fashion through Manchester City loanee Morgan Rogers' stunning long-range effort just before the half-hour mark but former Lincoln player James Wilson headed in the equaliser following a 72nd minute free-kick.
With other results proving favourable, it was enough to see Town move up a place to seventh in the Sky Bet League One table and half the deficit to the top six play-off places from two points to one. They also still hold a game in hand on sixth-placed Portsmouth.
Cook felt the 1-1 draw was a fair result and was pleased with the performance, which came off the back of Saturday's disappointing 3-1 defeat at Gillingham in his first game in charge.
"I'm pleased with the point and pleased with the lads," the Town boss told the club's iFollow service.
"I'd say Lincoln were the better side in the first half, although we did start the game quite well I think. They took control for a period, though, but overall I would say a draw was a fair result.
"It was a game of few chances but the reaction from Saturday was good. They didn't trouble us in the second half which is great credit to our defensive shape.
"We had a lot of positive performances tonight whereas on Saturday we didn't have much to talk about. We can take things from the game tonight into Saturday though and hopefully get three points which will see us in a good position."
For 32-year-old centre-back Wilson it was his second goal this term, having also scored a week ago as the Blues came from behind to beat Accrington Stanley at the Wham Stadium last Tuesday.
"To be honest I think it's a good point," he told iFollow Ipswich. "We maybe could have nicked it but I thought we did quite well in the second half.
"It will take time to implement everything we want to and I'd say they probably edged it first half, but then we definitely had the better of the second half so maybe a point is a fair result.
"I didn't think I'd got enough on my header but I'm very happy it found the corner.
"Two in three is probably a record for me! But hopefully I can continue to help out with a few for the remainder of the season.
"We've done a lot of work on set-pieces and things are going well in that area so hopefully it continues."
Town host 15th-placed Plymouth Argyle on Saturday (3pm) whose 2-0 home defeat to relegation-threatened Wigan Athletic last night was a third straight defeat for Ryan Lowe's side.
