Ipswich Town lift some of the pressure on manager Paul Lambert with impressive Hull City victory

Ipswich Town produced arguably their best performance of the season last night to come away from Hull City with a 1-0 victory.

It was a fast start from Town against their third-placed hosts and they were rewarded in the 15th minute when James Norwood converted Myles Kenlock's cross-field pass at the back post.

Chances then came and went to add a second goal – and in the second half Ipswich had to withstand some pressure from the Tigers.

However, they held out in impressive fashion, with goalkeeper Tomas Holy largely untroubled throughout the evening at the KCOM Stadium.

It was a much-needed victory for under pressure Town boss Paul Lambert, who has seen his side rise to 10th in the League One standings.

Midfielder Andre Dozzell told the club's website: "It was a good win and a much-needed three points.

"We built on the last game, because we should have beaten Oxford at the weekend really.

"I think we were organised from the start and everyone in the team did their job today – we put a real shift in.

"It was a grind and a battle in the middle of the pitch as well, but we showed quality to create chances and then Nors took his. The ball from Kenny was great. It was a nice ball in behind and then Nors did his job and finished it well."

Ipswich have another important fixture on Saturday when Doncaster Rovers will be the visitors to Portman Road (3pm).

Rovers are currently sixth, five points ahead of Town having played a game less.
