Ipswich Town defender Mark McGuinness selected for Republic of Ireland Under-21 duty

Ipswich Town's loanee defender Mark McGuinness has been called up to the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad for their upcoming clash against Wales.

The defender, who joined the Tractor Boys from Premier League side Arsenal on a season-long deal last summer, will link up with the Irish squad on Monday ahead of the match on Friday, March 26.

Ipswich are due to face Wigan Athletic just 24 hours later, so it would appear unlikely McGuinness will be available for that encounter.

The 20-year-old has made 18 appearances for Ipswich this term, the last of which came on February 16 in the 0-0 draw with Northampton Town. He is yet to feature under new manager Paul Cook.

McGuinness has been capped on one previous occasion by Ireland at under-21 level.
