Ipswich Town must make January additions to have any chance of promotion
At the moment, it really does feel like we’ll never see Ipswich play again, doesn’t it?
With the country in yet another national lockdown, I think it’s fair to say throughout the Coronavirus pandemic, this is the first time it’s really affected Suffolk and East Anglia.
The cases have risen through the roof and it’s therefore no real surprise that the football club have had several positive tests within the past few weeks.
Although we remain not entirely sure of whom those belong to, thankfully, none of these players have suffered too badly and needed any further hospital treatment.
At the time of writing, Saturday’s game with Swindon Town is still on and I hope you’re all reading this with that still the case.
With it almost a month since Town last kicked a competitive football, 23rd-placed Swindon will fancy their chances, though we will be favourites to get all three points and beat Burton the following week too.
Being an Ipswich fan, the January transfer window or any transfer window for that matter, doesn’t often throw up much excitement. And yes we’ve heard Lee O’Neill claim that ‘we must strengthen’ but let’s be honest, we’ve heard that all before and bar a few loan deals and maybe one signing from a lower level, I can’t see much ‘strengthening’ going on.
When you look at the table, it doesn’t look pretty, with Town outside the play-off places and having lost to five of the six teams above, with Peterborough sure to beat us later this month.
If we really are serious about going up, then we need to bring some quality in to finally start mixing it with these sides.
Every game for Ipswich Town now is a must win and like many other Town fans, I do not believe in Paul Lambert one bit; he just isn’t good enough. But I do hope I am proved wrong and miraculously we manage to get the job done and back up to the Championship.
