Ipswich Town's new owners and CEO will realise the size of the task in hand after AFC Wimbledon defeat

Where do I start? I’ve never known such a bang average mid-table team in England’s third tier to have so much noise and drama to discuss!

We can’t go any further without tackling the absolute embarrassment of a display we witnessed on Tuesday night against sixth bottom AFC Wimbledon.

It was a game in which Town made it appear as if Barcelona were the opposition. A game where Town were never really ‘at it’ (whatever ‘it’ is anymore. It’s been such a long time since I saw Town ‘at’ anything!).

Question marks from some sections of the fanbase are starting to be asked around manager Paul Cook, who has taken 10 points from 10 games. It’s been a disaster for Cookie and he ‘s an honest man who will admit that.

When he arrived in early March he targeted the top six and promotion, yet we head into Saturday’s game at Charlton (12.30pm) looking more of a below-par mid-table team than at any point this season. Long term he may be the answer for this football club but short term? I’ll leave you to decide that.

Some comfort must be taken from the fact that not only does he have a huge number of players out of contract this summer, he also has a ‘war chest’ to work with following the takeover.

While an increased budget does come with increased expectations – certainly bigger than getting blown away by AFC Wimbledon or drawing 0-0 with Rochdale – it is at least a comfort to know we have a manager with proven pedigree to build the new Ipswich Town.

Who would I keep past the summer? As of right now I’d keep none of them!

Ahead of the AFC Wimbledon game it was confirmed Bristol City’s Mark Ashton will be joining us as chief executive in June. I hope the ink was dry by the time he sat down to watch the horror show Tuesday.

Never has a CEO had so much to do in so little time. The pressure is on. Success is expected and required.
