Ipswich Town look like they have turned a corner after Doncaster Rovers demolition – now to continue the good feeling at Accrington Stanley
Shout it from the stands because it looks as if we’ve turned a corner.
I write this on the back of a fantastic win Tuesday night against Doncaster. It was a game that had everything – six goals, a clean sheet and a total dominant performance.
It followed a game on Saturday when I felt Town should have taken all three but only got one, and suddenly it looks like we’re on the right track.
Getting seven points from a possible nine against sides who have been in the play-offs recently, were in the Championship last year and Doncaster is a great return.
More importantly, it leads us into this weekend’s game and a fixture which traditionally has never been kind to us against Accrington Stanley. The start of Lambert’s demise was live on Sky when Stanley outworked us to win 2-0.
However, this is a different Ipswich and one that should head into Saturday’s game full of confidence and vigour.
Three games, eight goals scored and one against – that is a foundation and a building block for the season ahead, which is still very much in its infancy with 37 games still to be played.
Looking at the side now, we have such a strong spine developing. Hladky – after a shaky start – has come in and looked good, keeping two shut-outs in three.
Edmundson and Burgess are a pairing that appear to have settled well together. They bring a natural balance in being left and right footed, and play off each other well.
Burgess, the mountain, and Edmundson the more aggressive tackler.
Ahead of them is Morsy and Evans. What can you say? If they play the way they did Tuesday every week, it’s hard to see us losing many games. Morsy is total class. How is he in League One?
The saying is better late than never. Well Town just got better and it’s certainly not too late.
Now the challenge is to continue this good feeling on the road at Accrington on Saturday afternoon.
