Ipswich Town's poor start to the season sees anxiety levels rise among the fanbase

As the calendar changes months and the year changes seasons the urgency and expectations as a football fan follows suit. Optimism, blind or otherwise, starts to turn into panic and anxiety.

It’s safe to say, as we enter this weekend’s game away at Lincoln, that anxiety and mild panic have begun to grow within the Town’s fanbase. And it isn’t hard to see why.

We enter our seventh league game still without a win to our name and fresh out of last Saturday where Bolton took us to the cleaners, completely dominating us.

Tuesday evening’s EFL Trophy game at home to West Ham U21s could have been used as a springboard to record a victory and shock our season into life. But instead Paul Cook didn’t take the chance to get minutes into Christian Walton, George Edmundson and Cameron Burgess, to continue the gelling process into their partnership.

Instead we got Albie Armin, Luke Woolfenden and Thomas Holy who, it could be argued, would all do well to see playing time following a 19 signing transfer window.

However, one thing that can be clear from Tuesday’s selection is this; Cook is fast using up the faith and patience, and is fast running out of rope and excuses.

Ipswich Town have never been a knee-jerk sacking club. However, would it truly be knee jerk to remove the manager with a statline of four wins in 24? Unable to get results regardless of whose players they are.

Progress has been a big word all through the summer. But on Saturday I didn’t see progress from being thrashed by Bolton to being thrashed by Northampton or AFC Wimbledon last season.

So, as we enter this weekend against a solid Lincoln side with excuses and belief in short supply, the message this week from me is a simple one; Win. Leave it all on the field but just win. Find a way to win. Kickstart our story and kickstart our season.
