An apology to James Norwood and Gwion Edwards ahead of Ipswich Town's trip to MK Dons
I probably should start by addressing some Twitter controversy which went down on Wednesday evening...
What was supposed to be a nice, romantic Italian night ended up in some drama with none other than Ipswich's number 10 James Norwood! And look, I do feel like I owe both Gwion Edwards and Norwood a bit of an apology for what was an invasion of their privacy.
An almost starstruck type photo – that I initially sent to close friends and family – which I took while I was enjoying a calzone in the same proximity as them two, foolishly ended up making its way on to Twitter and I think the reason for doing that was more shock than anything else.
Like every Town fan, I was unaware the former Tranmere man was even carrying a knock, let alone injured to that magnitude and to be honest, I fully expected to see him involved at Stadium MK this weekend. So naturally, after seeing him hobble off on crutches, I've taken to Twitter to tell the world which in hindsight, I could have done without sharing a few rather peculiar pictures of them both.
I wish James well with his recovery as of course every Ipswich fan does. It's vital we have him back fit and scoring goals and hopefully Edwards can continue his terrific start to the season, which should only be aided by all that energy he gained from that carbonara (may have been a Spag Bol) dish he consumed Wednesday night!
All brushed under the carpet now and as Mr Norwood himself has said, no hard feelings. Apologies to them two and any fans who were perhaps left a little bemused by my actions on Wednesday evening.
Right, back to the football and we are top of the league! Three wins out of three. Six goals scored with zero conceded. Shall we start getting excited yet? Well, if you know Ipswich Town then the answer to that is absolutely not!
Another 2-0 win on a Saturday has made it three out of three and really given everybody around the club a much-needed boost after a disastrous finish to the previous campaign.
Truth be told, Town are yet to really be tested by their opposition yet. Wigan came and had a few chances and Rochdale did play some decent stuff last weekend, but we have always looked comfortable and capable of ‘getting the job done’.
Looking ahead now to Saturday and the short trip down to Milton Keynes to a ground where Ipswich picked up all three points last season and will be more than confident of snatching another three this year.
The Dons head into this one in the relegation zone with just a point to their name. And as I’ve said before and will say again, if Paul Lambert truly believes his side are good enough to be heading back up to the Championship come May 2021, then it’s a must win.
So much was said last season about Paul Lambert and his rotation policy but it appears clear this campaign that if he has the same 11 men fit from the week before, then they’ll be the same men lacing up their boots to start the following week, and I for one hope that remains the case this weekend.
The midfield trio continues to impress, with Jon Nolan the architect, Teddy Bishop the goal threat and Andre Dozzell the man to make things happen. And for the first time in a long time, we really do look the business in the centre of the park.
They say in football you should never look ahead and always take each game as it comes, but with more winnable games on the horizon for the Blues, you have to believe they could and should keep racking up the points at this early stage.
