Ipswich boxer Fabio Wardley on his fight with Nathan Gorman on Dillian Whyte v Jermaine Franklin undercard
Fabio Wardley will be looking to get Nathan Gorman out of the ring as soon as the opportunity arises when the pair face off on Saturday.
The Ipswich boxer heads into the much-anticipated fight off the back of the 'best camp' of his career to date, and will be looking to knock out Gorman inside the 12 rounds.
It is arguably the biggest, and toughest, fight of Wardley's career to date, with his 26-year-old opponent having previously fought for the British heavyweight belt.
However, he is undeterred by Gorman ahead of their battle on the Dillian Whyte v Jermaine Franklin undercard.
"I’m feeling really good, really excited, buzzing for such a big event and to have my moment really. I’m really looking forward to just being in a good fight," said the 27-year-old.
"I’m expecting him to be ambitious and start fast. He’s fought for the British title before and he didn’t make it through that first time around, so I think the second time around he will have an extra bit of fire in his belly and really want to try and step on me early. But I am more than capable of weathering that storm and coming through."
For Wardley, this fight has been a long time coming.
After his second round knockout win against Chris Healey in July, the former Chantry High School pupil vowed his next bout would be for the British heavyweight belt.
A battle with former sparring foe Nathan Gorman at Wembley Arena on Saturday was subsequently agreed, with both fighters expected to put on a show.
But is Wardley, who has won 13 of his 14 fights by knockout, feeling the pressure?
"I don’t know so much if I feel like it is pressure," he continued.
"I think more so to me it makes it more exciting that people are so interested in this fight, that there has been such a buzz and talk about this fight for so long, even way before it was even made.
"That just means there is a lot more eyes on the show and a lot more people to watch me put in the performance of my career against the toughest opponent I’ve had so far."
And the boyhood Ipswich Town fan only has his eyes on one way to finish the bout when the pair enter the ring at Wembley Arena.
"I’m always going for the knockout!
"Through this camp and all my camps, I always prepare for worst case scenarios. But if it does go the 12 rounds then I have got the tank for that, but I’ll always be looking to get him out of there as soon as the opportunity arises.
"The little inches you can grab always make such a difference and give you such a boost.
"It has been a fantastic camp to be honest. As cliche as it sounds, it has been my best camp to date. We’ve been sparring the most rounds I’ve ever sparred and I’m feeling just really on top of my game."
While he is fully focused on his match-up against Gorman on Saturday night, which is being shown live on DAZN, Wardley does have one eye on the future.
When asked what is next, should he make it 15-0 and claim the vacant belt, he said: "I’ve always got one eye on the future definitely, but by no means I am overlooking Nathan.
"But when we come through this fight the thing is just to keep moving. Keep moving forward and go for big fights. I love being involved in massive events and I want to be at the forefront of them come next year, I want to headline my own shows, I want to be the main event for a show.
"And that’s the aim for next year, to get this and then kick on looking for more belts, like the Commonwealth, the European and move into that more international scene and start taking some records there as well."
