Ipswich Town fan Fabio Wardley eyeing fight at Portman Road after claiming British Heavyweight title against Nathan Gorman
Fabio Wardley says he is targeting a fight at Portman Road after coming out victorious in his frenetic battle with Nathan Gorman on Saturday.
The Ipswich boxer and boyhood Town fan downed his counterpart twice in round two before Gorman's corner threw in the towel a round later, allowing Wardley to claim the vacant British Heavyweight title.
It caps off a brilliant year for the 27-year-old and takes him to 15-0, 14 of which have come by knockout.
And following his latest victory, Wardley has one goal in his sights - a fight at his beloved Portman Road.
"Of course," he said when asked about a potential headline show at the home of Ipswich Town. "That’s always at the back of my mind.
"I’ve got a great relationship with the club and it’s something we’ve spoken about on numerous occasions.
"It’s something everyone wants. We just need the right fight, at the right time and really get into something like that."
After triumphing in the British scene, Wardley is looking to progress up the ranks and start to move into the international scene.
He told SuffolkNews earlier this week of his ambition to fight for both the European and the Commonwealth belts, as well as headline his own shows.
Wardley said: "When we come through this fight the thing is just to keep moving. Keep moving forward and go for big fights.
"I love being involved in massive events and I want to be at the forefront of them come next year, I want to headline my own shows, I want to be the main event for a show."
The 27-year-old has been heavily involved with his boyhood club in recent years.
He was the face of the promotion campaigns for this season's kits, and his involvement has seen him sporting the Ipswich Town colours and badge in the ring.
For Wardley, in many way it has been a dream come true.
"Being a home town born and bred Ipswich boy, it is almost like a dream come true for me," he added.
"It is funny to see my face so attached to the club. There is big posters attached to the club with the kit release and it was almost surreal when I first saw that and people were telling me about it.
"It was a massive moment for me and something I am really proud of."
