FA Cup Fifth Round draw: Ipswich Town to travel to Nottingham Forest in last 16

Ipswich Town will travel to the winners of tomorrow’s last fourth round tie - which pits Exeter City against Nottingham Forest (now confirmed as Forest) - in the last 16 of the Emirates FA Cup next month.

Former England players Alex Scott and Theo Walcott pulled out the balls for the fifth round draw which was broadcast live on the BBC via the One Show this evening.

Kieran McKenna’s totally changed side got The Tractor Boys through to the last 16 of the world’s oldest and most famous domestic competition for the first time since 2007 with a 4-1 victory at Championship outfit Coventry City on Saturday.

Jack Clarke scored a first-half double after George Hirst’s early penalty had put them ahead before Jaden Philogene scored his first for the club since his £20 million transfer from Aston Villa to complete a pleasing afternoon at the CBS Stadium.

And the Suffolk side will be away from Portman Road again in the fifth round, having seen off Bristol Rovers on home turf in their entry third-round tie, against either a League One or Premier League side.

With the fifth round set to take place over the first weekend in March, it means they could face Nuno Espírito Santo’s high-flying Nottingham Forest side twice in the space of two weeks, with the east Midlands club set to visit them in the league on March 15.

And should it be Forest, they would travel to The City Ground looking to end a 15-game winless run there, stretching back all the way to when George Burley masterminded a 1-0 win in December, 1999, en route to promotion to the Premier League from the then Nationwide First Division.

The Blues have met The Tricky Trees on four previous occasions in the FA Cup, the first two coming in the 1980/81 season in the quarter-finals when they drew 3-3 at The City Ground before winning the replay 1-0 at Portman Road.

Both other meetings came in Nottingham in the third round, the hosts winning both games 3-0.

Exeter City, managed by Gary Caldwell, are currently 18th in the Sky Bet League One table, six points above the relegation zone.

Town’s only FA Cup meeting with the Grecians came back in December 1951 when the Blues won 4-0 in the second round at Portman Road.

Emirates FA Cup fifth-round draw (ties to be played between Feb 28 - March 3):

Preston v Burnley

Aston Villa v Cardiff City

Doncaster or Crystal Palace v Millwall

Manchester United v Fulham
