Billy McNicholl murder, Ipswich: Woman arrested on suspicion of murder after man found dead in Hawthorn Drive
A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a man in Ipswich last week.
Officers were called to an address in Hawthorn Drive, Chantry, shortly before 6pm on New Year’s Day.
When they arrived, they found the body of a man inside, who was later identified as 63-year-old Billy McNicholl.
A murder investigation was launched over the weekend as his death was believed to be suspicious.
A Home Office post mortem examination confirmed head injuries and a single stab wound as the cause of Mr McNicholl’s death.
Suffolk Police today confirmed that a woman in her 50s was arrested on suspicion of murder.
She was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre, where she remains.
While the cordon outside Mr McNicholl’s home has been removed, residents can expect an increased police presence in the area.
On Wednesday, a week after his murder, family paid tribute to Mr McNicholl, describing him as a ‘kind and thoughtful’ punk.
