G.Debman butchers in Ipswich’s Cliff Lane up for sale after 60 years

A family-run butchers in Ipswich has gone on the market for the first time in 60 years as its owners prepare to bid goodbye to the community they served.

After 32 years at the helm, George and Carol Debman, the husband and wife owners of G. Debman butchers in Cliff Lane, are looking to sell their business.

The pair wish to retire and want to hand over the reins to willing new owners.

Mr Debman said: “It is with a heavy heart we have decided to sell the business, as we have become so fond of the community and the familiar faces our family have served for over 60 years.

“It would be great to see the business pass to another butcher, but we understand the business offers other opportunities as well.”

The Debman family established the business in 1963 and it has passed from one generation to the next.

Mr Debman said they prided themselves on quality local produce.

He hoped the listing would provide the chance for someone to take over the well-known business – or convert it for use as another business to serve the area.

The sale will be handled by Christie & Co.

Lewis Last, a senior business agent at the firm, said the team were honoured to bring it onto the market.

He added: “Debman’s holds great sentimental value to our clients.

“The opportunity is ideally positioned on the outskirts of town and in the heart of a local housing estate.”
