Ipswich fitness fan Adam Lambert on Top 3rd Fitness, a private gym he set up for 'people from all walks of life'

A fitness fan and businessman from Suffolk has followed his dreams and set up a special kind of gym in the hopes of inspiring others to be greater.

Adam Lambert, 30, from Ipswich, is the founder and one of four personal trainers at Top 3rd Fitness, a private unit, which has plans to provide training to people from all walks of life.

The trainers, which operate on a shared calendar, work one-to-one or in small groups to try and accommodate those who may be uncomfortable or otherwise unwilling or unable to exercise in a traditional gym.

The team have taken up residence at the Alton Court industrial estate in Leslie Road.

Adam said he had a vision of setting up a ‘different’ kind of unit since he left the military five years ago.

He said: “There’s not a hierarchy as you would expect – each trainer has a picture and a short biography, and clients can get in touch with whoever they feel would fit them best directly without the need to go through the gym itself.

“We want to fulfil any demand there may be with residents, and to provide a happy place for people to benefit themselves.

“We have a really diverse cast of trainers, who can offer a wide range of service ranging from martial arts and self-defence, to post-natal workouts, rehabilitation and posture analysis, to people young, old and anyone in between.”

Adam specialises in military fitness, martial arts and self-defence, and has been training since he was 15.

Inspiration is the aim of the game, and he hopes others can find self-improvement through activity in the same way he has.

He currently operates a small client base of around eight-to-10 people.

However, once the gym is more established, Adam hopes to go out into the community and offer the lifestyle to those who may otherwise not consider it.

In particular, he hopes to reach out to youngsters who may be at risk of falling in with the wrong crowd or who may need guidance, and pass on knowledge.

This could involve visiting schools or youth groups.

Outside of the new venture, he also manages a power tool distribution centre.

The gym’s name comes from military slang – the ‘top-third’ being a term used to describe those most likely to be promoted – inspiring those who fall outside this range to improve themselves, Adam noted.

He feels it is a fitting name for the gym.

Adam added: “With all the ups and downs in life, I’ve found the only thing that allows me to find peace in chaos is fitness, and I want other people to have the opportunity to experience this. It’s a safe haven for me, that I’d like to encourage other people to go for.

“Not only do we promote health and wellbeing, but regular exercise can be very beneficial mentally and finding peace in discomfort is very rewarding.

“Ultimately, we set up the gym to help out people from all walks of life who may be struggling and give them an avenue to train without all eyes on them.”
