The Moloko in Lion Street, Ipswich, reopens this weekend under original owner, Zoe Cutting

A town's nightlife is set to thrive with the return of a popular venue — now under the leadership of its original owner.

Following a three-month closure, The Moloko in Lion Street, Ipswich, will reopen tomorrow with owner Zoe Cutting aiming to create a fun and safe space for the town’s community.

The bar was first launched in 2021 and, following a recent £100,000 investment to it’s outdoor space, Zoe said she cannot wait to bring back the venue’s signature atmosphere with the new all-weather terrace with retractable walls and ceilings which guests can enjoy all year round.

“The response has been overwhelming,” she said. “Seeing how much love there still is for The Moloko proves just how much people have missed having a space like this in Ipswich.

“There’s a huge appetite for what The Moloko represents — somewhere vibrant, fun, and above all, safe.

“We’re ready to bring it back and make it better than ever.”

The Moloko will be open for business from 9pm tomorrow with local DJ Rossi P providing old school R&B, garage and soul music.

Then on Sunday from 3pm, the venue will host its first Sunday Soul session featuring Ricky Hanley.

The venue will primarily operate as a bar, with a new age policy in place as Fridays will be for over 18s while Saturdays will be over 21s after 9pm.

To cater to a wider audience, the venue will soon introduce ‘daytime clubbing’ events — providing an opportunity for those who wish to enjoy a lively atmosphere in the afternoon, but still return home by 9pm.

Zoe, who previously took on Arlingtons in Ipswich, added: “Our reopening announcement has already reached over 30,000 views on social media, with hundreds of messages of support.

“We can’t wait to welcome everyone back and celebrate with an unforgettable opening weekend.”
