Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park in Wherstead, near Ipswich, welcomes Diego the brown bear

A brown bear which was at risk being put to sleep at a Swedish zoo has been welcomed at a Suffolk farm and wildlife park.

Diego faced being euthanised after the closure of Orsa Predator Park in Sweden last year, but thanks to a GoFundMe page from Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park, which raised more than £60,000, he was saved.

Since being brought to this country he has been at been staying in Devon whilst the Wherstead site built his enclosure.

Today the popular attraction released a video showing Diego arriving in Suffolk and being put into his new ‘forever home’.

On Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park social media pages, it said: “We are over the moon that Diego is safely here, at his forever home, and we are incredibly proud of all our team and also the public who helped us to get here by donating to Diego’s cause.

“From watching the heart wrenching tears on those that cared for Diego in Sweden – at the thought of losing him forever – to him now being here at his forever home, we can’t explain the joy.

“We have worked with an incredible team of experts and we are all so excited to get to know him, providing him with world class care and a living environment.

“Not only is this a milestone for us but it helps us educate the public on the role of brown bears in the ecosystem.

“Thank you to Wild Wood Devon for stepping in to accommodate Diego, in Devon, by offering him a place to sleep.

“Diego’s story is one of hope, strength and unwavering commitment to save the life of a bear whose time was running out.”

Visitors will be able to see Diego at Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park from March 28.
