Ukrainian Opera & Ballet Theatre Kyiv to perform Giuseppe Verdi's Aida at Ipswich Regent Theatre
A Ukrainian theatre company will come to Ipswich for one night only to give a rendition of a beloved opera.
The Ukrainian Opera & Ballet Theatre Kyiv will take over the Regent Theatre on April 14 for a performance of the famous Giuseppe Verdi play Aida.
The four-act show will show off the splendour of Egypt and the grandeur of ancient Rome, feature gold replicas from the Tutankhamen collection, Poi fire spinners, ebony statues and 'cascades of glittering gold', the organisers said.
In it, a cast including sopranos Elena Dee, Olga Perrier, Alyona Kistenyova and Natalia Matveeva, Romanian International tenor Sorin Lupu, and Vitalii Liskovetskiy from the Ukrainian National Opera in Kyiv, will perform well-known songs from the popular opera.
These include Celeste Aida, Ritorna Vincitor and the classic Triumphal March, which will be sung in Italian with English surtitles.
The rendition was directed by producer Ellen Kent.
She said: “My vision of Aida matches Verdi’s vision and I try and give it the grandeur which Verdi achieved in the first production in Egypt when he was commissioned to write an opera for the opening of the Suez Canal and premiered in Cairo in 1871.
"I want all to enjoy the grandeur of this magnificent opera, in my opinion the best score Verdi ever wrote.”
