This is when work to convert 345 Woodbridge Road, Ipswich, into a Co-op Food Store is set to begin

Work to convert a former Ipswich car dealership into a convenience store is set to begin next month.

The East of England Co-op has revealed that teams will be on site from April 7.

The store, at the old Renault dealership at 345 Woodbridge Road, is set to replace the existing shop at the corner of Albion Hill and Brunswick Road.

When it opens, customers will be able to enjoy a ‘greater range of products’, the firm said.

All workers from the Brunswick Road site will be transferred over.

Andy Rigby, acting chief executive for the East of England Co-op, said: “We’re thrilled to be bringing a brand-new East of England Co-op store to Woodbridge Road, Ipswich

"This exciting new location will offer an improved shopping experience, featuring a modern, spacious layout and the added convenience of on-site parking. Plus, our fantastic colleagues from the Brunswick Road store will be joining us, ensuring the same friendly service our customers know and love.

"We can’t wait to open our doors and welcome the community to this fresh new space in the coming months.”

Plans for the new shop were given the green light in December.

It is expected to open in mid June.

The building will be more environmentally sustainable, the firm said, while also offering cycling bays and electric vehicle charging ports.
