Teenage boy bailed after arrest on suspicion of Billy McNicholl’s murder in Hawthorn Drive, Ipswich




A teenage boy arrested on suspicion of murder has been bailed after police were given extra time to question him.

The 17-year-old was arrested on Wednesday, January 22 after the body of William McNicholl, known as Billy, was found within a property in Hawthorn Drive, Ipswich, shortly before 6pm on January 1.

Preliminary results from a Home Office post-mortem revealed the 63-year-old died from head injuries and a stab wound.

The teenager was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre and the police were given an additional 24 hours to question him.

He was bailed today with conditions to return to police on Monday, March 17.

A woman in her 50s, also arrested on suspicion of murder, is on bail until Wednesday, April 9.

Today, Billy’s mother Shezette Irwin-Marsh, 88, told the Haverhill Echo of her shock at the manner of his death.

She said: “Of course I am sorry that he has died, especially being murdered like that. I wouldn’t have expected him to be gone before me.”
