Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park in Whearstead, near Ipswich, welcomes polar bear to its farm after rescue mission

A polar bear has arrived at a Suffolk wildlife park after being rescued from a zoo in Sweden.

Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park in Pannington Hall Lane, Wherstead, near Ipswich, has rescued a female bear Ewa who otherwise would have been put to sleep.

However, another bear that was also part of the rescue has died on arrival to the farm.

Following a post-mortem, it was established the bear had an unknown heart condition from an early age.

Ewa had previously lived in Orsa Rovdjurspark (Orsa Predator Park) in central Sweden, which closed its door last November.

After the zoo was sold to developers, the staff were told that animals that could not be dispensed would be put to sleep.

Luckily, Ewa was rescued by Jimmy’s Farm.

Her new home at the site will be Europe’s largest polar bear reserve, and first of its kind in the south of England in three decades.

The site will open to the public next weekend, October 21.
