Ipswich ranked eighth best place for 'geeky' activities according to broadband helper Broadband Savvy

Ipswich has been ranked as one of the best places for geeks to live.

According to a report by Broadband Savvy, Ipswich ranks eighth in the UK due to access to traditionally 'geeky' activities including collectibles, trading cards, comic books and conventions.

It was the only place in the East of England to make the top 10.

The report analyses several criteria, including internet speeds, rent prices, nearby conventions, the number of trading card and comic book stores per square mile, science museums, and jobs in the technology sector.

Liverpool topped the list, while Portsmouth ranked second, and Bournemouth ranked third.

Carrying Ipswich up the list is the number of collectibles and comic book stores in the town, with shops like Langden Games and the Warhammer Shop being relatively close to each other.

Low rent prices in comparison to other places on the list was also a factor.

Broadband Savvy states that better access to the internet and the increasing popularity of video and board games is making the country geekier.

Each factor measured was given a weight and added to the total.

A score of 0.1 was given per megabit of broadband speed.

The city with the most collectible and trading card stores per square mile was Blackpool, the report said, while Liverpool also performed well.

Bournemouth had 0.28 comic book stores per square mile.

London topped the list in terms of conventions, but Glasgow was als a standout performer for the category.
