A14 Orwell Bridge closed as Storm Bella batters Suffolk with high winds and rain
The A14 Orwell Bridge will be closed from 8pm on Boxing Day Highways England officials have confirmed due to high winds as Storm Bella blows through Suffolk.
A Met Office yellow weather warning is in place for high winds across the county and the bridge will be closed until 6am on Sunday, December 27.
Highways England officials asked that anyone needing to use the bridge should do so before 8pm tonight.
A diversion will be in place during the closure via the A1156, the A1189 and the A1214 through Ipswich.
The closure is due to the gust direction of the storm and the possibility of crosswinds.
Met Office forecasters said Storm Bella will bring inland gusts of 50-60mph with 60-70mph winds in some places, while costs exposed to the southwesterly winds could see gusts reach 80mph.
The weather warning is in place until midday on Sunday.
