Some of the criminals with Suffolk links who faced justice in September, including people from Ipswich, Lowestoft and Bury St Edmunds

It has been a busy month for the courts, with sentences handed out to people across the county.

While some were punished for more minor offences, others received long jail terms for the more serious of crimes.

These are some of the people with Suffolk links who faced justice in October.

For our first case, a man who hid substances in his underwear was jailed.

Ryan Latham, 32, of no fixed address, was sentenced to 69 months in prison at Ipswich Crown Court on October 2.

This was after he dealt drugs over a period of seven months.

Latham was also found guilty of possession of ketamine and possession of two mobile phones in prison, after being arrested in Yarmouth Road, Lowestoft.

Our second case deals with an offender who was jailed after a string of rapes and sexual assaults while he was still a teenager.

Marcus Lucas, 20 of Sidegate Avenue, Ipswich, was found guilty of 16 offences at trial in May – after pleading guilty to six additional charges, and was sentenced on October 5.

Judge Emma Peters described him as a dangerous offender, who was arrested repeatedly between 2018 and 2020 after girls accused him of coercing them into sex acts.

And his offending did not stop between these arrests – and Lucas actually spent his sixteenth birthday in jail after one girl made allegations against him.

He was jailed for six-and-a-half-years, plus a five-year licence period upon his release.

Lucas must also sign the sex offender register indefinitely, on top of having a restraining order against him for 10 years.

Up next, six people were sentenced this month after a machete attack back in August.

The gang, all males between the ages of 16 and 19 at the time, were arrested in Westbourne Park in Ipswich on August 10, following reports of threatening behaviour in which threats to kill were made towards a person.

Two long machete-style knives were found in bushes where the group had been running past on their way to the park.

All were charged with conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.

They were jailed in Norwich Crown Court on October 5 for a total of 51 years combined.

He met the boy online in 2021, where they conversed through WhatsApp and Murphy sent intimate photos of himself to the boy.

The pair then met in person in June of that year, after which he paid the boy.

Murphy was sentenced to six years and eight months, extended by six years for dangerousness.

Also this month, a serial fantasist and sex offender who claimed to be Boris Johnson’s bodyguard was jailed.

Adam Wyles, of Great Yarmouth, appeared before Norwich Crown Court earlier this month, accused of posing as an insurance claims assessor in an attempt to scam £13,500 from a Norfolk amusement park.

Other deceptions included a previous claim to be a police officer and a music impresario, often in order to gain access to young girls.

He even posed as an army medic in order to work in a refugee camp for Ukrainians.

The court said he had a ‘long history of dishonesty’.

He was arrested in Hopton after officers learned of his involvement with two 15-year-old girls from Suffolk.

He was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment.
