Ipswich work to build new link road between Europa Way and Bramford Road ‘moving along well’ after three months, Suffolk Highways says
A seven month project to build a new link road in Ipswich is ‘moving along well’ after three months.
Suffolk Highways has provided an update on the project to extend Europa Way, which will see it joined with Bramford Road.
Over the past few weeks, teams made progress with offline works, such as installing 20 new lighting columns along the new site, plus the construction of a footway and cycleway.
A traffic switch was implemented along Bramford Road which allowed for Highways to widen a footway to the north.
New kerbs, asphalt and tactile paving were also added.
Throughout December, there are plans to partially remove the temporary traffic lights over the Christmas period, although a date has yet to be confirmed.
In the new year, footways and verges will receive a focus, with road surfacing pencilled in for early February.
A closure of Bramford Road is scheduled to complete reconstruction of the road.
In its last update, in November, the authority said drainage works had been completed, alongside kerbs and materials in Bramford Road.
Foundations had been laid and stone work completed in October. Trenches were dug and lights disconnected in preparation for utility works.
Work to build the new link road began on September 9, having been announced the month before.
The entire project is estimated to last until April 2025 – for a total of seven months.
Once construction on both roads is complete, they will be joined by a mini roundabout and will include a new footpath and cycleway.
The scheme aims to increase connectivity between Bramford Road and Sproughton Road.
Suffolk County Council hoped this would ease congestion in the area, which can get busy during peak hours, while mitigating traffic through residential streets.
