Copleston High School, in Ipswich, headteacher praises staff, students and parents for ‘consistently good’ progress scores
The headteacher of an Ipswich secondary school said ‘consistently good’ progress scores reflected the hard work of staff, students and parents.
Andy Green, principal at Copleston High School, in Copleston Road, said his school had achieved strong Progress 8 results over the past eight years.
Progress 8 measures students’ actual grades compared to what they were predicted, with a score of 1 being a whole grade above the prediction.
On average students would average more than half a grade higher than they were expected to – with the school having scored 0.36 consistently since 2017, excluding two pandemic years, rising to 0.56 in 2023, Mr Green said.
“I think people know we are a good school, but I don’t think they realise that we have performed at a consistently high standard over such a considerable stretch of time”, he said.
“Our Progress 8 results over the last eight years have been tremendous, with students achieving much higher grades than predicted year in and year out.”
Mr Green said sustained success was a testament to Copleston’s superb staff, students and supportive parents.
The school also boasts an impressive roster of extra-curricular activities, Mr Green said, including its basketball academy, ranked top three in the UK.
This has led to more than 30 pupils earning scholarships at American universities, including Ivy League colleges.
Mr Green believed students achieved more than predicted every year, symbolic of its ethos of hard work.
“By the time they leave Copleston, you get the best version of your 16-year-old,” he added.
“I am immensely proud of the all-round education that our students receive at Copleston, and I am extremely grateful to all those involved in helping to provide this.”
