Ipswich School Girls' Under 15 cricket team crowned national champions for the second time
A cricket team from Ipswich School have been crowned national champions the second year running.
The Under 15s girls team was declared national T20 champions on Monday after beating rivals Repton in the final.
They bowled them out for 78 on the penultimate over, applying constant pressure and taking wickets at regular intervals.
The competition took place at Merchant Taylors’ School in Middlesex on September 5 and saw each team play two matches.
In both games, the Ipswich team was elected to field first.
The total for the final was reached in the 10th over, losing only one wicket in the game.
Sam Bennett-King, the U15 girls’ coach, said: “Many congratulations to all members of this exceptional team on an incredible end to a highly successful season.
"This is an outstanding achievement for the Ipswich girls, and really cements their place in history as they are the only team in the competition to date to retain their national title at U15 level.”
The girls played their opening game against Kingston Grammar School.
This game also saw them lose only a single wicket, winning by 73.
