All Star Rock School comes to Ipswich and allows kids to learn music and play in a band

A rock school that allows school age children to learn music and play in bands returns to Suffolk.

Starting with the new term tomorrow, All Star Rock School is composing itself in Ipswich.

Anyone between the ages of 6-18 can try out drums, guitar, bass and vocals - and it's offering a free taster session.

The purpose of the school is to develop social skills and a love for music by focusing on the performance side of the medium.

Promising hands-on music tuition from industry professionals, each session sees students learning tracks to form a set list.

This will see them work towards an hour long performance.

The All Star team are working on organising live gigs and festival performances for this year's cohort.

One of the school's performers, Nandi, even played at the Foo Fighters tribute concert for drummer Justin Hawkins yesterday evening.

Co- Founder Natalie Wheatley-Perry said: “Kids who love music want to be in an exciting environment where they can perform with their peers and learn from switched on adults who have the experiences they aspire to."

She set up the school as she felt nothing in the area ticked all the boxes.

"Last year saw our students perform at some fantastic gigs including the Christmas light switch on and a Rock Prom at the Colchester Arts Centre and to see the inspiration these experiences give our young people is incredible.”

“It’s an exciting project that we hope will help produce some of East Anglia’s best future music talent."

The school meets at The Meeting Place Community Centre on Limerick Lane.

Juniors age 6 to 11 meet on Mondays at 4.45pm to 6.30pm, while seniors age 12 to 18 meet from 6.45pm to 8.30pm.

It also hosts meetings in Barker's Lane, Colchester on Tuesdays.
