Ipswich Town Football Club submits car park plans for former Staples site in Chancery Road, behind Sir Alf Ramsey stand

The redevelopment of a stretch of land behind Ipswich Town’s football ground is set to begin early next year.

The Tractor Boys have lodged plans with Ipswich Borough Council, seeking to begin work on land behind the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand.

The land, which previously housed Staples, would contain 168 parking spaces and six electric vehicle charging points, for use by broadcasters and club staff.

New access would be gained from Chancery Road while 17 spaces will be given to the Travelodge.

To compensate, a separate entrance and exit will be created in Russell Road for hotel guests.

In addition, the temporary buildings currently sitting at the site would be removed.

The Staples site was knocked down last year.

A spokesman for Ipswich Town said: “Ipswich Town Football Club is pleased to announce that plans have been submitted to develop the car park area behind the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand (South) at Portman Road stadium.

“Work is set to begin in early 2025.”

In addition to these plans, the spokesman hinted that additional plans would be lodged for the revamp to its Rushmere St Andrew training site, in Playford Road, in due course.
