Ipswich Borough Council applies to continue using St Peter’s Dock Car Park

Plans have been lodged for a car park on Ipswich waterfront to remain in use.

Ipswich Borough Council hopes to continue allowing the public to park at St Peters Wharf for another year.

While six motorcycle spaces and seven disabled spaces would be available for customers, no electric vehicle charging ports will be installed.

The authority felt this would not be a ‘justifiable requirement’ as the intention was to use the site as it stands.

Planning documents said that risk of flooding at the site was low, despite sitting close to the banks of the River Orwell, due to flood defences.

The borough council said continued use of St Peter’s Wharf formed part of the Greener Ipswich scheme, which includes upgrades between Lloyds Avenue and the waterfront.

Lloyds Avenue will be redeveloped as part of this scheme.

It is estimated this project could be complete by Autumn 2026.
