Plans for additional staff parking at Budgens in Great Blakenham, near Ipswich, withdrawn

Plans for more staff parking at a village convenience store have been withdrawn.

Pont Enterprises lodged proposals to build five new bays at the Budgens, in Moses Walk, Great Blakenham, in January.

Under the plans, a triangular patch of land by Moses Walk would have been converted into spaces for staff to park, allowing existing bays to be used more by customers.

Great Blakenham Parish Council opposed the plans over safety concerns for pedestrians.

The crossing from Budgens to Sandy Close was heavily used by pedestrians, the authority said, particularly children at the nearby play area.

A spokesperson for the council said: “The access road to Budgens currently does not accommodate two vehicles passing each other on the bend, which could result in congestion in a confined area.

“The councillors do not see a need for more parking, as the current parking lot does not seem to be fully utilised by customers visiting the shop.”

Suffolk Highways originally objected to the proposals as it felt vehicles would not be able to safely manoeuvre in and out of the spaces.

However, this objection was withdrawn after amended plans were submitted.
