Pedestrian critically injured following collision at Wherstead near Ipswich




A woman is in a critical condition in hospital following a serious collision at Wherstead, near Ipswich , yesterday evening.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the crash, involving a blue Ford Focus and three pedestrians, on The Strand B1456, close to the entrance for the Suffolk Food Hall, at about 9.04pm.

Officers said the car was travelling towards Shotley, and three pedestrians, two men and a woman, were walking towards Ipswich.

The woman, believed to be in her 40s, was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge by air ambulance in a critical condition last night.

This afternoon, police said she remains in hospital, where her condition is described as critical but stable.

One of the male pedestrians suffered injuries, but the other was not injured.

The road was closed in both directions between the Oyster Reach pub and the B1080 at Freston – it reopened at 1am.

Officers are appealing for witnesses, in particular drivers who may have dash-cam footage or any other information to assist the investigation.
