Ipswich Lodge Day Nursery praised as a 'home away from home' in outstanding rating by Ofsted
A nursery hailed as a home away from home by inspectors is thrilled to have been rated outstanding in its first review.
Ofsted said the 54 children at the Lodge Day Nursery in Ipswich are excited to attend, and are extremely relaxed and happy in a September visit.
Opened in 2017 on the site of Ipswich Preparatory School, its headteacher Claire Jackson said she was delighted the dedication of staff has finally been recognised.
She said: "Our staff are experts in helping children with their early development, which can be a difficult task.
"Both staff and pupils are very happy - and I'm glad everyone now knows our children are beaming with light."
Inspector Karen Harris said the children, who are between the ages of three months and two years old, thrive in the environment.
She noted staff ensure children's individual needs are met, and their communication and language skills are very well supported, being constantly introduced to new vocabulary – and children respond well to the high expectations put on them.
Parents have also praised the nursery and staff have a good relationship with parents and noted their children have made significant progress.
Leaders also make good use of the Ipswich School site and often take pupils on walks in the local area.
Harris added: “Children are motivated and exceptionally well engaged, as staff are highly skilful at encouraging children to learn through play.
"They experience exceptionally smooth transitions when they move between rooms in the nursery. Staff work closely with other agencies when required, such as health professionals, to ensure that there is pertinent support for those
children who may need additional help.
"The manager has a thorough knowledge of the staff and their practice and staff receive high levels of support. They have opportunities to take on responsibilities within the nursery and to further their professional development."
The nursery also has robust safeguarding, which is given the utmost priority.
Staff are fully aware of their responsibilities, and demonstrate excellent knowledge of when a child may be at risk of harm.
Every criteria assessed by the watchdog, including quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership were ranked as outstanding in the report.
Fees for the nursery range between £39.50 for a morning session to £70 for a full day of care.
Mrs Jackson said: "We know that leaving your young child in the care of others can be difficult for new parents, so we are pleased that people will know we offer outstanding care and development.”
