Claydon High School near Ipswich to see new fitness studio and sports hall as plans approved
A secondary school near Ipswich is set to get a new fitness studio and sports hall.
Back in July, South Suffolk Learning Trust applied for a major expansion and alteration to the sports centre at Claydon High School, which was approved by Mid Suffolk District Council at the end of last month.
The centre will be extended to meet requirements laid out by Sport England and would be used by both the public and pupils.
Among the items added will be a new sports hall, fitness studio, disabled changing facilities and reception.
In addition, the existing changing rooms would see an upgrade.
Parking would remain the same as the number of spaces already exceeds what is needed for the development, and three new part-time administration jobs will be created.
During the consultation, Barham Barish Council clerk Melanie Thurston said the authority would grant its blessing to the plans, provided the sports centre open to the public.
In addition, Sport England raised no objections to the plans.
Use by the public would be between 6pm and 8pm on weekdays, as well as 9am and 8pm on weekends and bank holidays.
