New Costa opens at Ipswich rail station as part of £3m refurbishment package
A new Costa Coffee has just opened at Ipswich rail station.
It was built as part of a £3 million refurbishment package for the station which saw the ticket office moved last year and extra ticket machines installed.
Greater Anglia said the station had been rewired as a part of these plans, which provides more modern lighting.
The toilets on platform two were also moved.
Simone Bailey, Greater Anglia’s Asset Management Director, said: “As passengers return to the railway, it’s important that we continue to invest in upgrades that will improve their journey and maintain rail as an attractive travel option by providing excellent facilities and service to our customers.”
Four years ago, Greater Anglia invested £2 million into refurbishments designed to create more space in the foyer during peak hours.
This led to the installation of a large airport-style waiting room as well as more comfortable seats with plug points for charging electronic devices.
More ticket machines were installed and retailers, such as Greggs, moved in.
The station's forecourt was also revamped, improving the layout for pedestrians, improved bus interchanges and better access to taxis and drop off or meet and greet facilities.
